Plaatsen die gebruik maken van Dimmers voor LED verlichting komt met duidelijke normen, waarin de dimmers verplicht moeten kunnen omgaan met het lage vermogen van de LED lampen, d.w.z. 90% lager dan halogeenlampen. Nogmaals, LED lampen mogen nooit zoveel stroom opnemen als gloeilampen. Dergelijke optimaal gedimde LED lampen worden ook wel trailing edge dimmers genoemd. Bovendien kunnen deze LED-lichtdimmers in een breder bereik worden besteld. Er is echter geen uniformiteit van stroomverbruik in de LED lampen en dimmers, waarin het een grotere kans heeft dat de dimmer gebruikt in een specifieke LED lamp variëteit geen compatibiliteit biedt met andere soorten lampen.
